INSTRUCTIONS
Sizes 6 and 12 months. I recommend reading the entire pattern before starting to knit. This cardigan is knitted in one piece. It starts at the neckline, and increases are made at the armholes, creating a raglan sleeve garment. It only has seams on the sleeves. With 3.5mm knitting needles, cast on 72 stitches. Knit 6 rows in 1x1 rib stitch. On the next right-side row, begin knitting in stockinette stitch and place markers as follows: 14 stitches, M, 8 stitches, M, 28 stitches, M, 8 stitches; M, 14 stitches. On the next right-side row, begin making increases to form the armholes. Increases will be made before and after each marker. At the same time, knit Charts A and B at the beginning and end of each row. Make 17 increases for size 6 months and 19 increases for size 12 months. You will have 208 stitches (size 6 months) and 224 stitches (size 12 months). Below is a table with the right-side rows (increases) and wrong-side rows for clarity. For size 6 months, knit up to row 34 of the table, and for size 12 months, up to row 38.

On the next right-side row (row 35 for size 6 months, row 39 for size 12 months), knit the stitches for the first front (continuing with the chart) and the first sleeve: 73 stitches (size 6 months) 79 stitches (size 12 months). Turn the work and knit only the stitches for the sleeve: 42 stitches (size 6 months) 46 stitches (size 12 months).
For size 6 months, continue knitting only the stitches for the sleeve.
At 12cm measured from the armhole, on a right-side row, make a decrease on each side as follows: knit 2 stitches, k2tog, continue knitting until 4 stitches remain, then k2tog, knit 2 stitches. After 2cm from the first decrease, on a right-side row, make two more decreases, one on each side in the same manner.
You will have 38 stitches remaining. On the next wrong-side row, knit in 1x1 rib stitch for 2cm and bind off all stitches. To make the cuff elastic, knit the stitches as they appear and bind off. The sleeve will measure 16cm.
For size 12 months, continue knitting only the stitches for the sleeve.
And after another 2cm, make two more decreases on each side. You will have 40 stitches.
On the next wrong-side row, knit in 1x1 rib stitch for 2cm and bind off all stitches. To make the cuff elastic, knit the stitches as they appear and bind off. The sleeve will measure 18cm.
Cut the yarn, join a new ball of yarn, and knit the stitches for the back plus the stitches for the second sleeve: 104 stitches (size 6 months) and 112 stitches (size 12 months). Turn the work and knit only the stitches for the sleeve: 42 stitches (size 6 months) 46 stitches (size 12 months).
Continue knitting the second sleeve in the same way as the first. After binding off the second sleeve, cut the yarn and join a new ball of yarn, then continue knitting the second front: 31 stitches (size 6 months) and 33 stitches (size 12 months) (remember to continue with the chart).
Turn the work and knit the second front, the back, and the first front together: 124 stitches (size 6 months) and 132 stitches (size 12 months). Continue knitting in stockinette stitch with all stitches, while also knitting Charts A and B.
When the body measures 14 cm (size 6 months) and 16 cm (size 12 months) from the armholes, knit in 1x1 rib stitch for 2cm with ALL stitches (do not continue with the charts). Bind off all stitches, just as you bound off the cuff stitches, and cut the yarn.
The body will measure 16cm (size 6 months) and 18cm (size 12 months) from the armhole. Finally, pick up all stitches along each front, from the neckline to the bottom of the body, to knit the button and buttonhole bands.
Knit the bands in 1x1 rib stitch for 6 rows and bind off all stitches.
On the right-side band, knit the buttonholes on row 3. The first 2cm from the top edge and the others spaced 3cm apart. Knit them as follows: k2tog, yo. All that remains is to sew the sleeves, weave in ends, and sew on the buttons.
