TUTORIAL

The embroidery stitches we will learn are the running stitch, backstitch, French knot, and the initial is embroidered with the chain stitch. To embroider on paper, it's important to have a felt base to prevent the paper from tearing when perforated. Therefore, we must place it behind the paper.

The most used stitch to highlight our watercolor is the backstitch, as it is ideal for outlining our illustrations. To begin, we will follow the entire outline by perforating the paper, leaving the same distance between each stitch. It's important that the stitches are not too close to each other to prevent the paper from tearing when we pass the threaded needle through.

Once all the holes are made, we can thread the needle with the perlé thread color that best matches our watercolor and start embroidering. The backstitch is about moving backward to create a continuous line of stitches.

And your Christmas wreath is ready! We hope you enjoyed making it. This is a basic technique that we can reinvent with modern designs and very creative ideas. I encourage you to make your own designs and play around creating new accessories or home decor with different textures.
