DIY Your Own Style

When and how did the idea for your blog come about?
I've been crafting since I was a little girl. Like many of us, my grandmother taught me how to crochet, and I haven't stopped since.
This all started last year, but I'll tell the story from the beginning. I worked for many years as a telecom sales rep and even owned my own franchise of a well-known brand. I thought that would fulfill me since that's what I'd been doing for years, but every day I felt more frustrated and unmotivated. I started to lean on crochet to escape; it was my moment of disconnection from the day, and I registered a Facebook account under the name Own Style DIY. People liked what I was doing, so I started offering finished products like booties and baby accessories. Last year, I created an Instagram account with the intention of designing my own patterns and becoming more visible to other people who shared my interest.
A few months later, I launched the website with my own blog, where I also have an online store and offer patterns for my designs, as well as kits.
What do you like most about dedicating yourself to design?
What I like most is the satisfaction of being able to offer my creations and designs to other people and seeing how they enjoy making and using them. I also love the design process itself, from having the idea in your head, sketching it in your notebook, carefully searching for the perfect material for that garment or accessory, detailing each step… and once you have everything, you start shaping it, discovering mistakes and successes from which you learn a lot.
What inspires you when creating new products?
I've made amigurumi, baby clothes, baby accessories, but without a doubt, what inspires me most are garments and accessories in general: bags, espadrilles, etc. I really like the Boho Chic style, relaxed, cheerful, and above all, comfortable clothes or accessories. It's hard for me to make something I wouldn't wear or use, as I always imagine the garment or accessory on myself.
What is your next challenge?
I am a very ambitious person; it's difficult for me to define just one challenge.
I'd like to get into macrame, circular needles, Tunisian crochet, latch hook, locker hook, and countless other ideas, hahaha.
I love learning new things and continuing my education.
An anecdote?
As an anecdote, I'll share when my husband, desperate to see me with a hook in my hand all day, said, "Why don't you teach me?" I never thought he'd be interested in learning, hahaha. This led to a YouTube channel called DIVERSIÓN CROCHETERA (CROCHET FUN), where I teach my husband how to crochet, and I also make video tutorials to learn crochet techniques and ideas.
