PATTERN
Cast on 90 stitches. The Butterfly Stitch requires a number of stitches that is a multiple of 10.
Work 4 rounds in Garter Stitch.
To knit Garter Stitch in the round, we must knit odd rounds (R1 and R3) in K and even rounds (R2 and R4) in P.
Starting from R5, we will introduce the Butterfly Stitch (include photo detail of Butterfly Stitch).
We will distinguish 2 groups of rounds.
The first group will be from R5 to R9, and we will call it A.
The second group will be from R10 to R14. We will call it B.
They differ at the beginning of the round, to ensure that the pattern formed by the Butterfly Stitch creates alternating butterflies and not one on top of the other. The Butterfly Stitch consists of 5 rounds; in the first 4 rounds, we must slip 5 stitches P-wise without working, as indicated by the pattern, with the yarn in front. In the fifth round, we will perform the butterfly closure.
To perform the butterfly closure, we must knit X stitches in K (as indicated by the pattern). For example, in group A, in R5 it will be after 7K at the beginning, so it will be the 8th stitch that we must take together with the strands (yarn overs) that we slipped in the previous 4 rounds and knit them all together in 1K. This way we manage to close the butterfly and achieve the desired effect. Then, we will alternate X stitches between the yarn overs, depending on whether we are in group A or group B.
Thus, R9 would be: R9: 7K/*YO + 4strands + 1K*/9K/*_*/9K/*_*/…/2K”
Group A:
R5: 5K/•5PSP yarn fwd•/5K/•_•/5K/…/5K/•_•
R6, R7, R8 = R5
R9: 7K/*YO + 4strands
+1K*/9K/*_*/9K/*_*/…/2K
Group B:
R10: •5PSP yarn fwd•/5K/•_•/…/5K
R11, R12 and R13 = R10
R14: 2K/*YO + 4strands + 1K*/9K/*_*/…/ 7K
Repeat 5 times from R5 to R9 (group A) and repeat 4 times from R10 to R14 (Group B), always alternating set of rounds A and B.
Final border:
R50 and R52: K
R51 and R53: P
Bind off stitches on (R 54) on the right side, being careful not to tighten too much.
