MITTEN PATTERN
ABBREVIATIONS
R: Row/Round.
K: Knit stitch.
P: Purl stitch.
YO: Yarn Over.
PSWY: Purl slip "x" stitches without working them.
*_*: Repeat instructions between asterisks.
ES: Edge Stitch. Slip the first stitch without knitting it as if to knit.
K1 below: instead of knitting the stitch as usual, you should insert the right needle into the stitch below it, from the previous row, and knit it.
TRN: Turn needles at the end of a row.
PATTERN
Cast on 35 stitches.
The number of stitches needs to be a multiple of 7. We will work 24 rows for the cuff of each mitten, repeating this set of 4 rows, 6 times in total.
Follow this chart:
Lace Cable Stitch:
R1: *P2/K1/P2/K2*. Repeat *_* 4 more times
R2: *P2/K1 below/P2/K1/YO/K1*. Repeat *_* 4 more times
R3: *P2/K1/P2/K3*. Repeat *_* 4 more times
R4: *P2/K1 below/P2/slip 1 purlwise without working/K2 and pass the slipped stitch over. Repeat *_* 4 more times
Repeat this set of rows until R24.
Next, we will knit a series of rows combining K and P. R25, R26, and R27 in K. R28 in P. R29, R30, and R31 in K. R32 in P. R33, R34, and R35 in K. R36 in P.
R37 is knitted in K. After finishing this row, do not continue knitting in the round. Move the stitch marker from the beginning of the round up, then turn the needles to knit flat a series of rows to create the thumb hole.
R38: ES/K3/P27/K4 (TRN)
R39, R40, and R41: ES/K34 (TRN)
R42 = R38 (TRN)
R43, R44, and R45 = R39, R40, and R41. (TRN)
R45 is the thumb separation. Place the marker again and continue knitting in the round to finish.
R46 is knitted in K.
Next, we will knit 12 rows the same as the first 4, meaning in Lace Cable Stitch.
R47 to R50, R51 to R54, R55 to R58 = R1 to R4.
In R59, bind off the stitches one by one as they present themselves.

Knit R1 to R20 in 2x2 Rib Stitch. This rib stitch is a multiple of 4.
All rounds start and end the same way: K2/P2/.../K2/P2
Increases: The increases are made in R20, meaning during that round, not at the end. (After st 21, and after st 49)
• First simple increase: after knitting 21 stitches, pick up the next stitch from the previous round, lift the stitch onto the left needle, and knit it.
• Continue knitting as before.
• Second simple increase: after stitch 49 of the same round, repeat the increase in the same way as before.
• We will have 70 stitches, which are what we need to knit the Diamond Lace Stitch, which must be a multiple of 10.
Next, we will see how to knit the Diamond Lace Stitch. The step-by-step instructions for the odd rounds, where we need to follow the indications to create the stitch pattern, will be given. The even rounds should always be knitted.
R21: *K1/YO/SKP/K5/K2tog/YO*/ Repeat *_* 6 more times, until the end.

R33 = R21
R35 = R23
R37 = R25
R39 = R27
In the next rounds, we will begin to decrease, from 70 stitches we will end up with 14 stitches. Decreases will always be made in the odd rounds, knitting the even rounds as before.
R41: K4/SK2P/K7/SK2P/K7/.../SK2P/K3 (56 stitches)
R43: K3/SK2P/K5/SK2P/K5/.../SK2P/K2 (42 stitches)
R45: K2/SK2P/K3/SK2P/K3/.../SK2P/K1 (28 stitches)
R47: K1/SK2P/K1/SK2P/K1/.../K1/SK2P (14 stitches)
In R49, bind off the remaining 14 stitches by knitting 2 together.
To finish, use the leftover yarn to make a pompom and attach it to the top of the hat with a strand of yarn and a darning needle.
