ch: chain
sc: single crochet
R: row/round
PATTERN
To make this backpack, we will make several parts and then assemble them by sewing them according to the instructions below.
Base:
Color 002 (yellow). Make a chain of 20 stitches.
R1: Crochet 1 sc in each stitch, taking only one of the loops that form the stitch, meaning crochet on one side of the chain; when you reach the last stitch, make 5 sc, turn and continue crocheting sc on the other side of the chain, taking the remaining loop. When you reach the other end, make 4 sc, which together with the first sc you crocheted, total 5 sc. Slip stitch. (46 stitches)
R2-6: Make 1 sc in each stitch, increasing 3 stitches at each end.
R7: Change color, in white, make one more round, increasing 3 stitches at the ends.
R8-11: Change color, in green, crochet 4 more rounds, increasing 3 stitches at the ends.
Sides (x2):
Color 007 (green). Make a chain of 21 stitches and make 20 sc. Make 2 more rounds of 20 sc. In total, 3 rounds of 20 sc.
Flap:
Color 001 (white). Make a chain of 12 cm (10 stitches) in sc and 8 rounds, increasing 3 stitches at one end in each round.
Handle:
Color 001 (white). Make a chain of 11 stitches, and make 10 sc.
Straps:
Color 001 (white). Make a chain of 71 stitches and make 70 sc.
Assembly:
Fold the base in half and sew the sides to the lateral edges, leaving the rounded part open (this will be the top of the backpack).
Sew the flap to the back of the backpack, 5 cm from the top rounded edge, centered.
Sew the handle to the top of the flap, centered.
Sew the straps, right at the edge of the back of the flap, centered. Sew each end of the straps to the base of the backpack, one at each bottom back corner.
Closure:
If you have chosen to use a button, you need to make a buttonhole by crocheting a chain of the appropriate size for your button, joining the ends of the chain, and sewing it in the center of the flap. Sew the button at the necessary height for the closure.
If you are going to use, like me, a ring and a wooden ball, you need to prepare the ring: form a tassel by passing the threads that will form it through the ring and securing it with a knot. Attach it to the opposite side of the center of the flap. Sew the wooden ball to the backpack, aligning it with the ring.
