Baby Blanket

This Christmas, at Lanas Rubí we are giving away Knitting, and among these gifts, there's always room for the little one in the house. It's exciting when we experience these special dates with a new family member, and dedicating all our attention to them is essential. Today we present a new free pattern, designed by  Made In Rox, the Rubí Bambino Baby Blanket, a cute blanket that will look great in the little one's room. Knitted with our Rubí Bambino collection, choose the colors you like best and let's get to work.

MATERIALS

BEFORE YOU START

Technique, gauge, measurements and stitches used

The blanket is constructed in a single piece by working rows back and forth along its length. Normal crochet rows are combined with rows using tapestry crochet to create the bobbles.

The "points" of the blanket are achieved by making increases and decreases as detailed in the pattern and charts.

After crocheting the entire blanket, the tassels are worked and added to the short sides of the blanket.

It is important to make a tension swatch to obtain the final measurements according to those described in the pattern. For this, a 10cm square in double crochet corresponds to 13 stitches and 9 rows using the base color of the Bambino Piccolo blanket.

The final measurements of the blanket are 75 x 100 cm after the piece is blocked.

The stitches used in this pattern are as follows:

ch: chain

sc: single crochet

dc: double crochet

scinc: 2 single crochets are made in the same stitch, creating an increase in single crochet.

sc2inc: 3 single crochets are made in the same stitch, creating a double increase in single crochet.

sc2dec: a double decrease in single crochet is made, meaning the next three stitches are transformed into a single stitch by working in single crochet.

dcinc: 2 double crochets are made in the same stitch, creating an increase in double crochet.

dc2inc: 3 double crochets are made in the same stitch, creating a double increase in double crochet.

dc2dec: a double decrease in double crochet is made, meaning the next three stitches are transformed into a single stitch by working in double crochet.

bobblestitch: consists of making 6 double crochets in the same double crochet stitch and leaving them on the hook without closing; pick up a loop and slide the hook to close all stitches on the hook. Whenever this stitch appears, the color is changed to the one corresponding to the bobbles, so the rows containing bobble stitches are actually made using the tapestry technique, carrying the unused yarn through the fabric in each stitch.

WOOL BLANKET PATTERN

We start by working 111 stitches with LanasRubi Bambino Piccolo (001), that is, the base color of the blanket, and our 5.5 mm hook.

On these initial 111 chains, the following back and forth rows are worked, keeping in mind that the initial 2 chains of the rows correspond to the first dc of the row, and if the row begins with 1 initial chain, it will act as the first sc of the row.

r1 to r4: 2ch (1st dc)+ 1dc in the same stitch + 5dc + [dc2dec + 10dc + dc2inc + 10dc]x4 + dc2dec + 5dc + dcinc.

The following chart shows the first row, whose structure is repeated throughout the pattern.

r5: 1ch (1st sc) + 1sc in the same stitch + 1bobblestitch + 2sc + 1bobblestitch + 1sc+ [sc2dec + 1sc + 1bobblestitch + 2sc + 1bobblestitch + 2sc + 1bobblestitch + 2sc + sc2inc + 2sc + 1bobblestitch + 2sc + 1bobblestitch + 2sc + 1bobblestitch + 1sc]x4 + sc2dec + 1sc + 1bobblestitch + 2sc + 1bobblestitch + scinc.

In this fifth row, we introduce the bobbles for the first time; the pattern continues to correspond to the chart of the first row, replacing the initial 2 chains with a single one, the dc with sc, and some of them with bobblestitch.

r6 to r8: repeat r1.

r9: repeat r5.

r10 to 12: repeat r1.

r13: repeat r5.

r14 to r60: repeat r1.

r61: repeat r5.

r62 to r64: repeat r1.

r65: repeat r5.

r66 to 68: repeat r1.

r69: repeat r5.

r70 to r73: repeat r1.

As explained above, all rows in which bobble stitches are worked (rows 5, 9, 13, 61, 65, and 69) are made using the tapestry crochet technique. For this, each time we reach the first bobble stitch of a row, we must change to Lanas Rubi Bambino Grey (007), make the bobble and pick up the yarn we were working with until now, which has been camouflaged inside the bobble. After the first bobble, we will camouflage the grey yarn through the fabric in the subsequent single crochets until we find the next bobble stitch, for which we will pick up that yarn again.

Once the rows that make up the blanket are finished, we fasten off and hide the yarn tails through the fabric with the help of a tapestry needle and scissors. We can block the blanket to obtain an optimal result.

At this point, we only need to make the tassels and attach them to our blanket.

TASSELS

On the four corners of the blanket, we will place tassels made with Bambino Batik (003) yarn.

On the other "points" of the blanket, we will place tassels made with Bambino Jaspe (001) yarn. In both cases, we use a piece of cardboard about 10cm long, wrapping the yarn around it 75 times for Bambino Batik and 50 times for Bambino Jaspe.

Once all turns are made, with a thread of about 40cm, we tie a knot at one end of the cardboard and cut the threads at the other end.

We tie the thread we used to make a knot tightly to secure it correctly and use another separate thread to give the tassel body.

Cut off the excess threads and attach the tassel to our blanket.
